The third edition of the Institute of Studies of La Rioja (IER) Research Awards recognized the work ‘Application of atmospheric cold plasma (APCP) for the sanitization of oak barrels‘.
The work was carried out by researchers from the University of La Rioja (our Group colleagues Elisa Sainz-García, Ana Sainz-García, Rodolfo Múgica-Vidal and Ignacio Muro-Fraguas) and the Institute of Grapevine and Wine Science (Lucía González-Arenzana and Rocío Escribano-Viana).
This research proposed the treatment of oak barrels with atmospheric pressure cold plasma (APCP) to reduce the microbial contamination responsible for important organoleptic alterations in wine.
