Ana Sainz-García wins the Best Poster Award at ICPIG 2023

Congratulations to Ana Sainz-García for winning the Best Poster Award at ICPIG 2023! Her research on the use of Plasma Activated Water (PAW) to prevent foodborne diseases caused by Listeria monocytogenes was recognized at the international congress held in the Netherlands.

The research is conducted by the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of La Rioja (P2ML- Projects Plasma and Machine Learning) in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry of the University of La Rioja and the Molecular Microbiology Area of the Center for Biomedical Research of La Rioja (CIBIR). They have successfully developed a PAW generation system where flow plasma comes into contact with water through bubble formation. In addition, fluid-dynamic simulations were carried out to improve the prototype, resulting in an enhancement of bacterial mortality up to 80%.
